Medical Laboratory Science Program
Meet the Primary Faculty
The UMPC Chautauqua WCA Medical Laboratory Science Program boasts of quality individuals who supervise the program and faculty who bring years of experience and vast knowledge into lectures and one-on-one clinical training. Additional instructors in the lecture and bench instruction of the program are bench Medical Technologists who bring with them a wide base of experiential knowledge along with a desire to share their knowledge and love of laboratory science. All of the laboratory’s technical staff are certified by a national certification board and are licensed by the New York State Department of Education Office of the Professions as Clinical Laboratory Professionals.
The Primary Faculty
William A. Geary, MD, PhD
Medical Director, Pathologist
As Medical Director of the Medical Laboratory Science Program and as Laboratory Director, Dr. Geary is board certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology, and in Cytopathology. He received his Ph.D. in Pharmacology (1983) from Washington University, St. Louis, Missouri and his M.D. from the University of Virginia School of Medicine (1987). Dr. Geary performed his residency at the University of Virginia Health Sciences Center in Charlottesville, VA, and has extensive publications. Dr. Geary joined the UMPC Chautauqua WCA health care team in 2003 and owns his own private medical practice, Jamestown Area Pathology.
Michele G. Harms, MS, MLS(ASCP)CM
Michele received both her Masters Degree in Biology, emphasis in Physiology (1995), and Baccalaureate Degrees in Medical Technology and Biology (1989) from the State University of New York College at Fredonia. She completed her internship at Rochester General Hospital (1990) and worked as a bench technologist at UMPC Chautauqua WCA until accepting the program's directorship in 2002. Michele was also an adjunct faculty member at Jamestown Community College, teaching labs in Anatomy & Physiology, for 17 years.
Kyle C. Jordan, BS, MLS(ASCP)CM
A graduate of Gannon University, Erie, PA, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Technology, Kyle himself is a graduate of the UMPC Chautauqua WCA Laboratory Science Program, which he completed in 2014. Kyle has had experience as an off-shift Medical Technologist, as well as experience lecturing within the Program prior to accepting the position of Program Coordinator in May 2016. Being a generalist, Kyle has experience in all areas of the clinical laboratory, including Blood Transfusion Services, and is passionate about teaching the art of Laboratory Science.
Christina Brumagin, BS, MT(ASCP)
A graduate of Jamestown Community College (A.S.) and SUNY College at Fredonia (B.S.), Christy has been employed at UMPC Chautauqua WCA since completing her clinical year in our own UMPC Chautauqua WCA program in 1993. Christy has taken an active role in on-the-bench teaching of laboratory students throughout her career and in multiple departments as a generalist. As supervisor of our hematology department (2016) she is enjoying a more focused instruction and helping guide students.
Amy Calarco, BS, MT(ASCP)
Amy received her baccalaureate degree from SUNY College at Fredonia after completion of her clinical internship at UMPC Chautauqua WCA (1983). Amy has worked at UMPC Chautauqua WCA as a Medical Technologist since graduating and accepted the microbiology supervisor position in the fall of 2011.
Tanya Anderson, BS, MT(ASCP)
Supervisor, Blood Bank
With years of experience gained at multiple quality institutions, Tanya came to UMPC Chautauqua WCA in 2004. Having worked in many departments and on different shifts, she brings an array of experiences to the laboratory bench. Tanya became the supervisor of Blood Bank in 2015.
Patricia Lindquist, BS, MS, MT(ASCP), SC
Supervisor, Clinical Chemistry
A graduate of Juniata College (1982), Patty performed her clinical training at Altoona Hospital in Altoona, PA. She started at UMPC Chautauqua WCA as a Medical Technologist in 1982 and obtained her Specialty Certification in Chemistry in 1990. In 2004, Patty obtained her Master's degree, and taught Chemistry courses at Jamestown Community College and Southwestern High School for nine years while working at the UMPC Chautauqua WCA laboratory in summers. She returned full-time to the UMPC Chautauqua WCA laboratory in 2012, and is currently Manager of Clinical Chemistry.
