A Message From Our President
Moving forward and building upon the strong affiliation relationship with UPMC Hamot, we continued to examine the ever-changing and sometimes unstable landscape of the national health care industry. We held intense and thoughtful discussions with several area health systems, examining the relationships with physicians; assessing our normal patient flow and the continuum of patient care to a defined geographic population; examining the economic strength of each health system; and evaluating the different structures and cultures that each institution would bring.
It became evident after a rigorous and multi-year study that a WCA-UPMC partnership was the right choice for our hospital, our patients, and our communities and in December of 2015, we announced a formal affiliation agreement to integrate WCA Hospital into the UPMC network that was met with great community and hospital support.
With UPMC, we have a partner that will invest $90 million dollars that will lead to a long-term sustainability plan as well as capital investment for this hospital. With an additional $26.4 million dollars from the New York State Essential Healthcare Provider Support Program, this partnership allows us to provide and deliver care to more than 7,000 inpatients, more than 41,000 patients needing emergency care treatment, and upward of 400,000 outpatient care services. We have a partner that will enhance access and convenience to local health care and expand accessibility of top-rated, specialty services for our patients, right here at home where we enjoy life.
Together, with UPMC and UPMC Hamot, we will enhance and add services and programs. We will bring more specialty physicians with specialized skills to our region. We will combine our strengths to support our communities and health partners to fight disease and injury while promoting and advancing a model of wellness. With UPMC, we will meet the challenges of today’s evolving and transformational health care system—not only today, but tomorrow and well into our future.
Today, we enter a new era in health care to deliver world-class care to what matters the most—our patients.
