Jamestown, New York (Monday, June 22, 2009)—The WCA Hospital Auxiliary presented Betsy T. Wright, WCA Hospital President/CEO with a $25,000 check, the first installment of their 3-year, $106,000 pledge to WCA’s capital campaign for a new Emergency Department (ED). This gift was made possible by a grant from the W.C.A. Foundation through the Hoag Family Fund, an endowed fund which supports WCA Hospital through the Auxiliary. The 3-year pledge will help to underwrite the construction costs of two private, patient treatment rooms within the new ED.
“It is our goal to exceed our pledge and extend our financial support to include furnishings for the ED treatment rooms equipped with new, lifesaving medical equipment,” said Mrs. Uma Vejendla, President of the WCA Hospital Auxiliary. “Our aspirations are ambitious, but with generous support from our Auxilians and community supporters, we will faithfully accomplish our goal of raising $106,000. We are very excited to be partners in the transformation of the hospital’s future state-of-the-art Emergency Department.”
Each year, the Auxiliary selects special fund-raising projects through a variety of events to support the mission of WCA Hospital. In 2008/2009, the Auxiliary sponsored, funded, and initiated programs that included Small Indulgence Jewelry sales, Imagine Nation Book Fair, Books are Fun sale, Parklane Jewelry sale, Christmas Holiday sale, and Peterson’s Candy sale. New fund-raising events for the year were May Day Flower sale, Reeds Gold Buy Back sale and Boutique To You sale. The Auxiliary also raises funds from hospital gift shop sales and other special community events.
“We are extremely grateful for the generosity of our Auxiliary,” said Betsy Wright. “For many years, our Auxilians have volunteered their time, talents and resources to the continuing growth of our hospital. Our Auxiliary is a vital partner in our mission and we sincerely extend our heartfelt thanks for their charitable donation.”
The auxiliary welcomed new board members, Mary Phaneuf, Treasurer; Karl Sisson, Vice-President Community Service; Margaret Anderson, Wish List Chair; Judith Burgett, Hospital Board Representative. Other board members for the 2009/2010 year are: Uma Vejendla, President; Judy Littlejohn, Vice-President Special Events/Sales; MaryAnn Pappalardo, Vice-President Membership; Jackie Carlson, Recording Secretary; Sara Vail, Corresponding Secretary; Sara Khan, Past-President; Amy Reinhardt, Volunteer Coordinator; WCA Auxiliary Gift Shop Chairs, Edie Boscarino and Denise Klizek. The WCA Auxiliary is a dedicated group of individuals who, in partnership with WCA Hospital, raise funds that facilitate the purchase of state-of-the-art technology and expansion projects. Their generous gifts help finance the growth and development of WCA Hospital. The Auxiliary, which consists of 130 members, provides a way for everyone in the community who has been treated at WCA to give back to their local hospital.
