WCA OBSERVES “BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH” IN OCTOBER
Jamestown, New York (Monday, September 28, 2009)—The WCA Hospital Center For Imaging and Wellness Program will provide “free” breast health education and awareness packets to the public during October, “National Breast Cancer Awareness Month”. Health care professionals from WCA Hospital are available to speak to area businesses, agencies and support groups on screening, symptoms, diagnosis, treatment, and ways to protect yourself against breast cancer. To schedule a health care professional for your group, contact the WCA Speaker’s Bureau at (716) 664-8614.
Free pamphlets, brochures, self-examination cards, wallet-size mammogram reminder cards, and A Guide on Breast Cancer In Men are available by contacting Toni DeAngelo, R.N., WCA Hospital Wellness Program Director, at (716) 664-8677.
The Center For Imaging & Medical Arts at WCA provides SAME DAY MAMMOGRAM results and has expanded its health and wellness program with the addition of a nurse specialist who is specially trained to coordinate the clinical, educational and supportive needs of individuals who are scheduled for breast health testing at the Center For Imaging.
“From the time of the patient’s initial mammogram, our nurse specialist is available for our patients, providing education, support and assistance in maintaining good breast health care,” said Dianne Courtney-Freeman, Senior Radiologic Technologist/Certified Mammographer on staff at WCA. “National Breast Cancer Awareness Month is a great time to raise awareness that the best defense against breast cancer is early detection with regular mammograms and manual self-examinations.”
To schedule a mammogram, contact the Center For Imaging & Medical Arts at (716) 664-8448. For information on low cost/no cost mammograms, contact the New York State Department of Health Cancer Services Program, Chautauqua County Partners For Prevention, at 1-800-506-9185.
