Jamestown, New York (Thursday, November 5, 2009)—The W.C.A. Foundation has made a $1 M pledge toward WCA Hospital’s capital campaign to construct and equip the hospital’s new Emergency Department.
“With this pledge, we are making the statement that the Emergency Department campaign is vitally important,” states Brigetta Overcash, Board Chair for the W.C.A. Foundation. “Over the next few years, the W.C.A. Foundation is financially supporting this campaign as much as we possibly can. We are also deeply committed to the future of WCA Hospital and to the health of this community.”
“WCA’s most significant limitation is our outdated and undersized Emergency Department,” explains Judith Burgett, Board Chair for WCA Hospital. “Built in the 1970’s, our Emergency Department was sized to accommodate less than 10,000 visits. In 2008, we served 36,500 patients and that number is expected to grow to 41,000 annual visits as our population continues to age. This tremendous pledge by the W.C.A. Foundation, along with the support of this entire community, is vital to ensuring that we are properly sized and equipped to meet the emergency care needs of our community for many years to come.”
With construction slated to begin in October 2010, the thoughtfully-designed, 18,000 square foot Emergency Department will feature 30 private treatment rooms with electronic health records completed at each bedside. WCA Hospital expects to gain valuable space and privacy, resulting in increased capacity, efficiency, and overall improvement in patient experiences. The new Emergency Department is designed to support additional floors above as WCA positions itself to complete overall campus consolidation in the years to come.
The one-story structure will reside along Prather Avenue where WCA’s current South Building is located. Currently, the South Building houses Speech & Hearing, Health Information Management, Medical Records, Occupational Health, and other office space, but no patient rooms.
“The W.C.A. Foundation’s commitment continues to build momentum for this important campaign effort,” says Betsy T. Wright, WCA Hospital President/CEO. “We look forward with great anticipation to generating additional campaign support as we transform the front door of healthcare in our community. The construction of the new Emergency Department will be a major boost not only for WCA, but for the entire community and local economy.”
To date, WCA has now secured over $10 M toward the campaign’s $16.5 M goal for the construction of the new Emergency Department, slated for completion by the end of 2012. The campaign is accepting gifts and pledges payable through 2013. In addition to this capital goal, the WCA family has also set a $10 M endowment/planned giving campaign goal over the next ten years.
