WCA CENTER FOR IMAGING FIRST IN COUNTY TO EARN “BREAST IMAGING CENTER OF EXCELLENCE” DESIGNATION
The Center For Imaging & Medical Art At WCA administrative leadership, physician, clinical and support teams celebrate designation as “Breast Imaging Center of Excellence” – the only imaging center in Chautauqua County to receive this distinction.
Jamestown, New York, (Friday, July 31, 2009)—WCA Hospital officials announced that the American College of Radiology Commission on Quality and Safety and the Commission on Breast Imaging has recently designated the Center For Imaging & Medical Arts At WCA a “Breast Imaging Center of Excellence. The Center For Imaging At WCA is the only imaging center in Chautauqua County to earn this designation.
To achieve this status, the Center For Imaging had to earn accreditation in all ACR’s voluntary, breast-imaging accreditations including, stereotactic breast biopsy, breast ultrasound and ultrasound-guided breast biopsy, and mammography.
“One of the fundamental values at WCA is our commitment to quality care,” said Betsy T. Wright, FACHE, WCA Hospital President/CEO. “We are very proud to receive this important designation from the ACR which recognizes our strength in quality breast imaging. Earning this designation places our center among a unique group of breast imaging providers nationwide and informs our community that we provide the highest level of quality services. We congratulate everyone involved in this outstanding achievement.”
Designation indicates that the Center For Imaging At WCA has voluntarily participated in a rigorous review process to ensure that it has met and exceeded nationally accepted patient care standards. ACR evaluates qualifications of personnel, equipment performance, and effectiveness of quality control measures and is a national organization serving more than 32,000 diagnostic and interventional radiologists, radiation oncologists, and nuclear medicine and medical physicists. Its programs focus on medical imaging, radiation oncology and the delivery of comprehensive health care services.
“The ACR’s Breast Imaging Center of Excellence recognizes the achievement of high practice standards in this community,” said Lyndon Gritters, MD, board certified radiologist on staff at WCA and Chairman of the Medical Staff Radiology Committee. “It involves peer-review evaluations of our personnel and equipment by nationally known physicians who are experts in their field. There are only 300 centers in this country with this recognition, and that’s out of 8,500 mammography facilities nationally. We are thrilled to be recognized for our dedication and commitment to the early detection of breast cancer. Improvements in service and patient care must be a continuous ongoing process.”
The Center For Imaging Stereotactic Breast Biopsy service was granted accreditation in May, 2009, by the ACR for a period of three years. WCA was surveyed by the Committee on Stereotactic Breast Biopsy Accreditation of the Commission on Quality and Safety.
The new Center For Imaging, located directly behind WCA Hospital, provides a unique concept of centralizing diagnostic and imaging services under a convenient consumer-friendly outpatient environment designed with comfort, privacy, and convenience in mind. The Center offers women and men same day mammogram results, bone density testing, outpatient laboratory services and provides access to the most advanced technology and services available.
“Ultimately, this “Breast Imaging Center of Excellence” certification is a direct reflection of our entire team’s hard work and dedication,” said Dr. Gritters.
