Jamestown, New York (Friday, December 11, 2009) - Today, WCA Hospital unveiled its commemorative 125th Anniversary Logo and Slogan in a special ceremony that marked the official kick-off to a year-long celebration of WCA Hospital’s 125th Anniversary. On May 23, 2010, WCA Hospital will officially turn 125 years of age.
This fall, the WCA Hospital 125th Anniversary Committee conducted a logo and slogan contest for WCA employees and volunteers designed to capture the spirit of the commemorative anniversary. The WCA Hospital Care & Share Committee considered dozens of entries from employees and volunteers before selecting the winners.
Amy Masters, WCA Hospital Volunteer, won the 125th Anniversary Logo contest. Her commemorative logo concept incorporates the hospital’s 3D logo with the anniversary year of 125 set on top. Douglas Dilker, WCA Hospital Boiler Operator, won the slogan contest with, “Since 1885, The Heartbeat of Our Community”.
“I want to congratulate Amy and Doug,” said Betsy T. Wright, WCA Hospital President/CEO. “Their concepts, captured through our logo and slogan, truly portray the essence of the history and spirit of our anniversary. Their concepts will be instrumental in helping us celebrate our 125th anniversary.”
Throughout 2010, the WCA Family will partner with the community through a series of events, programs, and activities designed to celebrate its rich history, highlight advances in medicine and medical technology over the years, emphasize the value of WCA Hospital in the community, and ultimately share the organization’s exciting vision for the future.
“2010 will be an exciting year, particularly as we embark upon the capital campaign for our new Emergency Department,” said Wright. “In partnership with our 125th anniversary, the timing of our Sharing The Gift of Health campaign is ideal. The construction of our emergency department is critical and will transform the front door of healthcare in our community, setting the stage for another 125 years of service to our community.”
Chartered in 1885, The Woman’s Christian Association (WCA) of Jamestown, New York was founded as a boarding house for young working women and a one room hospital for its residents and other sick and injured persons. From these humble beginnings, WCA Hospital has continued to grow and expand to meet the ever-changing needs of the community and surrounding areas. Today, WCA Hospital is Southwestern New York’s largest not-for-profit national award-winning healthcare provider, employing nearly 1,200 employees, 100 physicians on the medical staff, and over 120 active volunteers.
