WCA RANKED TOP PERFORMER AMONG HOSPITAL ACROSS U.S.

Jamestown, New York (Thursday, November 19, 2009)—A great testament of a hospital centered on clinical excellence and a superior experience is recognition of their hard work on the national forefront. WCA Hospital has done just that! WCA joins an exclusive group of hospitals across the U.S. that was recently awarded “Best in Value Merit Awards” for superior quality, affordability and efficiency and patient satisfaction by Data Advantage LLC, a company that specializes in compiling and reporting data on America’s health care industry.

WCA ranked in the top 25 percent of all hospitals across the country in quality and patient satisfaction or “best in value”. WCA was among an elite group who scored in the top 10 percent – only 75 hospitals received this rating – to be awarded the Superior Affordability and Efficiency Merit Award for high marks in affordability and efficiency.

According to a press interview with Betsy T. Wright, WCA President/CEO, “It’s great when an independent organization such as Data Advantage announces that WCA is a top performer!”

Betsy explains that Data Advantage chooses hospitals for the awards based on publicly-available information. “They look at patient safety information, inpatient and outpatient payment records and Medicare and Medicaid benchmark information,” says Wright. “All of this information is available on a nationwide basis and most of the data is available from government agency-run public sources.”

Data Advantage examined more than 4,500 hospitals across the country for its Hospital Value Index™ - the first-ever national study of its kind in the U.S. and the only benchmark to compare and measure the value of hospital care at the local level. Data Advantage examined patient mortality and readmission rates, the cost the hospital incurred for providing services, the prices charged for an array of inpatient and outpatient services and patient satisfaction data provided by the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems organization.

“The patient experience is a very big part of what Data Advantage examined when it was compiling the information,” noted Betsy. “This award isn’t an award we received because our numbers look good. We have a hospital board, medical staff, employees and volunteers who are very dedicated to the patient’s experience. That is what allows us to deliver such high quality health care so effectively.”
