BRUCE EASTERLING NAMED WCA VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR

Jamestown, New York (Thursday, April 23, 2009)—One hundred and fifty-six volunteers were recently honored for their hours of service at the annual WCA Hospital 2009 Volunteer Recognition and Awards Luncheon. Mr. Bruce Easterling was named Volunteer of the Year, receiving the 5 Star Volunteer Award. Recognized for demonstrating extraordinary service and dedication while exemplifying the qualities reflected in the WCA Hospital’s mission, Bruce has served as a volunteer at WCA Hospital since 1994. Mr. Easterling was also honored during the luncheon as top hours-honoree, donating 1,091 hours of service last year.
Other volunteers recognized for top hours of service at the volunteer luncheon were, Bill Warner, 991 hours of service and Robert Gray, 963 hours of service. Top student hours of service awards were given to Brian Johnson, 175 hours of service; Katie Rice, 75 hours of service and Patrick Salemme, 60 hours of service.
The Luncheon included remarks from Betsy T. Wright, WCA Hospital President/CEO, Judith Burgett, Chair of WCA Hospital Board of Directors; Amy Reinhardt, WCA Hospital Volunteer Coordinator; and Mrs. Uma Vejendla, WCA Hospital Auxiliary President.
"WCA would not be what it is today without you," said Betsy T. Wright, FACHE, WCA Hospital President/CEO. "What an awesome opportunity to stand before this great group of people and recognize you for your hours of service to WCA and the patients we serve. You are always willing to share a smile, lend an ear, hold a hand, or provide company and comfort to a patient or family members. You are truly ambassadors for WCA and an asset to your community. On behalf of the WCA staff, our medical staff, and most importantly, our patients, I thank you for your dedication, support and commitment to your community and to our patients."
Amy Reinhardt, Volunteer Coordinator remarked, "Today’s celebration is a thank you to all of you. You are WCA’s good fortune and this fine organization is so lucky to have individuals like each and everyone of you."
Reinhardt reported that 202 active volunteers gave 21,747 hours of service in 2008.
