Area students participate in Chautauqua Works Healthcare Career Day at WCA Hospital, May 6. The interactive learning experience takes local students out of their classrooms and exposes them to the many healthcare job opportunities locally.

Jamestown, New York (Wednesday, May 18, 2016)—Chautauqua Works in partnership with the Sheldon Foundation, Chautauqua Region Community Foundation, and the Chautauqua County Health Network recently held a Healthcare Career Fair at WCA Hospital on Friday, May 6. More than 120 area high school students had an opportunity to gain insight, information, and exposure to the many career opportunities in healthcare.

“Seeing is believing,” said Jessica L. Green, WCA Hospital recruiter. “Our goal is to connect local students to local health-related career possibilities. The students were given a rare chance to see, first-hand, the many amazing career options available right here where they live. Most students need some preparation before they enter the workforce or begin to think about a college direction. This interactive, informational-packed fair inspires and encourages kids to consider a career in the medical field while providing the necessary steps and tools to begin a future in healthcare.”

High school student in attendance at the fair were Jamestown High School, Falconer Central School, Maple Grove Jr Sr High School, Sherman Central School, Cassadaga Valley Central School, and Sherman High School.

The students met with healthcare professionals from WCA Hospital, area colleges, and employers including Aspire of WNY, Cassadaga Job Corps Academy, Chautauqua County Health Network, E2CCBOCES, Heritage Ministries, Jamestown Business College, Jamestown Community College, The Resource Center, TLC Health Network, Home Health Services, University at Buffalo School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, and Venture Forthe.

Interactive learning booths at the career fair featured healthcare professions in laboratory, pharmacy, nursing, operating room nursing, health information management, occupational therapy, radiologic technology, medical technology, infection control, and emergency response career jobs.
