Chautauqua Institution VP and Chief Marketing Officer George Murphy Keynote Speaker at WCA Doctors’ Day Luncheon

George Edward Murphy, vice president and chief marketing officer at Chautauqua Institution, and keynote speaker for the WCA Hospital Doctors’ Day Luncheon on March 30, will present “Positioning Chautauqua Institution for Growth and Sustainability”.

JAMESTOWN, NY (Tuesday, March 22, 2016)—George Edward Murphy, vice president and chief marketing officer at Chautauqua Institution, will be the keynote speaker for the WCA Hospital Doctors’ Day Luncheon that commemorates the National Doctors’ Day observance. The luncheon will be held on Wednesday, March 30, from Noon to 1 p.m. at the WCA Auditorium. Hosted by hospital leadership, the event salutes the medical staff at WCA which consists of 170 dedicated physicians representing over 30 medical and surgical specialties.

Mr. Murphy’s keynote presentation is entitled: “Positioning Chautauqua Institution for Growth and Sustainability”.

Wright, FACHE, WCA Hospital President/CEO. “Our luncheon is a great opportunity to extend our gratitude and appreciation to the many extraordinary physicians at WCA who are dedicated to the health of this region.”

Before joining Chautauqua Institution in 2011, George was CEO of two start-ups: Trumedia Technologies who developed an audience measurement technology for digital signage based on facial recognition and Aladdin Lighting Technologies, an industrial LED lighting company. Mr. Murphy remains an equity investor in both companies and is a board member at Aladdin. From 2001 to 2008, George was senior vice president, Global Marketing for DaimlerChrysler, responsible for worldwide marketing of the Chrysler, Dodge, and Jeep brands. From 1999 to 2001, Murphy was chief marketing officer for Ford in North America, responsible for the marketing of the Ford brand. Previous to Ford, he worked for GE Lighting in the United States, Singapore, and England becoming vice president, Worldwide Product Management. Prior to that, George was a management consultant with Booz Allen & Hamilton.

Mr. Murphy received a Master in Business Administration from Carnegie Mellon University. He received a Master of Science in engineering (M.S.E.) and a Bachelor of Science degree from Duke University, located in Durham, North Carolina.

Preceding the keynote presentation, Timothy Brown, MD, board-certified surgeon, president of the WCA Hospital Medical Staff, will present the prestigious 2016 Physician of the Year Award, an honor given annually to one outstanding physician in Chautauqua County that distinguishes the physician on the medical staff for his or her significant practice experience, compassion, community involvement, and commitment to a healthier community.

Past honorary Physicians of the Year include, Bert Rappole, MD, honored in 2005; Richard Lisciandro, MD, honored in 2006; Ranjit Laha, MD, honored in 2007; Sawaran S. Bambrah, MD, honored in 2008; Robert Ungerer, M.D., honored in 2009, Bill Toms, MD, honored in 2010; Bhagwandas Sutaria, MD, honored in 2011; Randall Swanson, MD, honored in 2012; John LaMancuso, MD, honored in 2013; James Dahlie, MD, honored in 2014, Ronald Klizek, MD, in 2015.

Music will be provided by pianist, Lucille Miller. A special luncheon menu will be prepared by the WCA Hospital Hospitality team.

The first Doctors’ Day, held on March 30, 1930, in Winder, Georgia, was inspired by the wife of Dr. Charles B. Almond and marks the anniversary of the first use of general anesthesia in surgery by Dr. Crawford W. Long in 1842. On March 30, 1958, the United State House of Representatives adopted a resolution commemorating Doctors’ Day. In 1990, the congress and the senate approved legislation establishing National Doctors’ Day. The resolution designating March 30th as National Doctors’ Day was signed by President George Bush.

On Wednesday, March 30th (National Doctors’ Day) the community is invited to remember their physician(s) and the many ways in which they promote, maintain, and restore health.
