Jamestown, New York (Tuesday, July 11, 2017)— Jamestown High School (JHS)students battled to raise $12,517 to A Fresh Start Fund at WCA Foundation. The fund, was started by Kim Carlson, is dedicated to helping those affected by addiction and chemical dependency.

Tony Dolce, JHS student organization advisor stated, “The classes had a difficult decision to make this year, as there were numerous great organizations to support. But, with the ongoing epidemic of addiction and chemical dependency increasing, they saw the need to support this worthy cause and hopefully make a change for the future.”

JHS started its 38th year of battleover a month-long fundraising effort by the school, which culminates in a festive competition between all JHS classes in fun events. The event was open to the public.

A Fresh Start Fund commenced by Kim Carlson, was created in honor of her son, Alex Foulk, who lost his life tragically to addiction. When Alex passed away, I knew that I must find a way to help make a difference for other families in our community,” stated Kim.  “I had to put my grief to good use. I am so grateful to our community for the continued love and support that has so freely been given. Together, we stand united on the front lines of this nationwide epidemic. We must all know the facts; we must talk openly. I truly believe that the best way to bring change is to share our personal experiences and ask ourselves what we can do to be part of the solution.”

The WCA Foundation supports the health care initiatives of UPMC Chautauqua WCA.
