JAMESTOWN, NEW YORK (Sunday, April 9, 2017)—Mindfulness, an ageless practice that helps improve mental and physical health, concentration, and acceptance, will be offered during UPMC Chautauqua WCA’s community event, GIRL TALK—a  free community presentation that will be held in the Auditorium., at 207 Foote Ave., Jamestown, on Thursday, April 13. The goal of mindfulness is to be continuously present, and learn from your surroundings and experiences without distraction.   First 50 guests receive a free make-up bag.

A vendor show with more than 15 interactive demonstrations begins at 6 p.m.; physician presentation starts at 7 p.m.  Registration is not required.  Parking is available in the Visitor’s Parking Lot, adjacent from the front entrance of the hospital on Foote Avenue.

“Our minds have a tendency to wander,” says Trish McClennan, MA, NCC, CASAC, MAC, inpatient adolescent and adult mental health manager, UPMC Chautauqua WCA, who will demonstrate mindfulness tips during the community presentation. “Mindfulness is paying attention purposefully in the present moment.  Research has shown that mindfulness is not only associated with feeling less stressed, but is related to improving sleep, decreasing depression, improving concentration, and supporting weight loss goals.  The practice of mindfulness can bring many benefits to your emotional and physical well-being and we urge residents to stop by and try some simple techniques that can be used in your daily life.”

Participants can also sign-up for a free diabetes prevention workshop, prepare advanced health care directives; and meet the health professionals of UPMC Chautauqua WCA’s bariatric, ultrasound, mammography, and robotic team.  In recognition of National Robotics Week, April 8 to April 16, students from Persell Middle School Robot Class will present a LEGO Robot Exhibit; and Karen Glosser, local photographer, will host a photography exhibit, “Reflections on Lake Erie”.  The UPMC Chautauqua WCA Auxiliary will present an Easter Candy Sale during the event.  Proceeds from the sale benefit the hospital.

Attendees can enter to win an over-night stay and spa experience, compliments of Peek’n Peak Resort.  Refreshments include a healthy strawberry shortcake dessert.  For more event information, call 716-664-8614.
