JAMESTOWN, NY, Aug 30, 2017– The Jamestown and Southwestern Midget Youth Football Leagues, including league cheerleaders, are not only tackled their opponents this past season, but breast cancer during the month of October, National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, by wearing pink socks in honor and support of those affected by breast cancer. The Jock Shop and UPMC Chautauqua WCA partnered with the area youth leagues to donate back a portion of the proceeds to LINKS Charity-LINKS Pink Walk that fundraises for local breast cancer care. The leagues have raised more than $1,000 in support of the cause.

“The kids were excited to be part of the experience during breast cancer awareness month and are looking forward to raising money again this year,” stated Brandon Maggio, league commissioner. “In talking with a lot of the kids, most of them were affected in some way or another and understood the importance of supporting our community.”

LINKS Charity, established in 1991, was cofounded by Mary Blair and Sondra Anderson. Their commitment and passion along with many benevolent volunteers, including Allen Short, executive director for the organization’s first 19 years has been remarkable. LINKS Charity continues in its mission to link the community, business and industry together to enhance local cancer care at UPMC Chautauqua WCA. LINKS Charity is spearheaded by lead-sponsor Truck-Lite and major sponsors Cummins Engine, United Refining Company, The Bilicki Law Firm and Alstar EMS, along with associate sponsors Veracity Benefits and Jamestown Savings Bank.

Alongside the leagues’ efforts, LINKS Charity will host the 7th Annual LINKS Pink Walk sponsored by Univera Healthcare on Saturday, October 7, inside the Chautauqua Mall.
