WCA Auxiliary Makes $70,000 Gift Toward New Emergency Department

Jamestown, New York (April 30, 2010) – During WCA Hospital’s annual Volunteer Recognition Luncheon, the WCA Hospital Auxiliary presented Betsy T. Wright, WCA Hospital President/CEO, with a $70,000 check, the second installment of their three-year, $106,000 pledge to support WCA’s capital campaign for a new Emergency Department. To date, the Auxiliary has given a total of $95,000. The three-year commitment will support the construction costs of two private, patient treatment rooms within the new Emergency Department.

“We are so grateful to the outstanding efforts of our Auxiliary,” said Betsy Wright. “I wish to thank these wonderful volunteers, along with our employees, medical staff, and Board members who support their fundraising efforts. Together, we look forward to the new front door of health care in our community with the construction of our 21st century Emergency Department.”

This gift represented the proceeds from several fundraising activities conducted by the WCA Hospital Auxiliary, including the operation of the hospital’s gift shop. In 2009-2010, the Auxiliary held fundraising sales at WCA Hospital including Small Indulgence Jewelry, Imagine Nation Book Fair, Books are Fun, Parklane Jewelry, Peterson’s Candy, Reed’s Gold Buy Back, The Basket Company, and Boutique To You, as well as conducting a Christmas Holiday and May Day Flower sale. This gift also included a $20,000 grant from the W.C.A. Foundation, Inc., through the Hoag Family Fund, an endowed fund which supports WCA Hospital through the Auxiliary.

“We are so excited to be ahead of schedule for our three-year pledge and look forward to exceeding our goal next year,” stated Mrs. Uma Vejendla, President of the WCA Hospital Auxiliary. “There is not a more worthwhile and meaningful project for the Auxiliary to invest its time and energies into than our new Emergency Department.”

The WCA Auxiliary Board of Directors includes Uma Vejendla, auxiliary President; Judy Littlejohn, Vice President; Karl Sisson, Vice President Community Service; Sara Vail, Corresponding Secretary; Jackie Carlson, Recording Secretary; Mary Phaneuf, Treasurer; Margaret Anderson, Wish List Chair; Judith Burgett, Hospital Board Representative; and Gift Shop Chairs, Edie Boscarino and Denise Klizek.

The WCA Auxiliary is a dedicated group of individuals who raise funds to support the mission of WCA Hospital. Their generous gifts help finance the growth and development of the hospital. The Auxiliary, which consists of 130 members, provides a way for anyone in the community who has been served by WCA an opportunity to give back in support of their community hospital.
