Wright, President and CEO, and Karl Sisson, Director of Development, from WCA Hospital with a $10,000 check representing a grant from the PNC Foundation to support WCA’s capital campaign for its new Emergency Department.

Jamestown, New York (Tuesday, June 29, 2010) – On Monday,PNC Financial Services’ charitable arm, the PNC Foundation, awarded a $10,000 grant to WCA Hospital. This grant will support WCA’s Sharing the Gift of Health capital campaign for the hospital’s new Emergency Department. The donation was made through Pittsburgh-based PNC’s Grow Up Great program, a ten-year, $100 M initiative.

Adjacent to the reception and waiting area in WCA Hospital’s 21st-century Emergency Department will be a consultation room where physicians and staff can privately consult with patient families when necessary. This grant enables WCA to create a kid-friendly atmosphere in this room.

“We are pleased to support this vital campaign,” explains Marlene D. Mosco, President of the PNC Financial Services Group, NWPA Region. “Our grant is another way we can help support the children and families of the Chautauqua Region served by PNC and WCA Hospital.”

“PNC’s grant enables us to offer children a warm, friendly environment for them to learn and have fun, sometimes during very difficult circumstances,” states Betsy T. Wright, President and CEO of WCA Hospital. “PNC’s commitment to this campaign and the children of our community is to be commended.”

The PNC “Grow Up Great” Mission

PNC Financial Services has a long history of strengthening and enriching lives in the communities it serves. PNC has provided resources to seed ideas, foster development initiatives, and encourage leadership in non-profit organizations where imagination and determination are at work enhancing people's lives everyday.

To build on this commitment, PNC developed Grow Up Great, a ten-year, $100 M investment to help improve the school readiness of millions of children from birth to age five. The PNC Foundation's priority is to form partnerships with community-based non-profit organizations within the markets PNC serves in order to enhance educational opportunities for children, particularly underserved pre-K children, and to promote the growth of targeted communities through economic development initiatives.

WCA’s 21st Century Emergency Department

Featuring twenty-eight private treatment rooms and two private triage rooms, the new 18,000 square foot Emergency Department will maintain and enhance the quality of care for which WCA Hospital is nationally recognized. It will meet the present day and the increasing future volume demands of the Jamestown area. This 21st-century Emergency Department will minimize patient treatment times, decrease throughput and admission times, improve efficiency and collaboration, and enhance physician recruitment efforts.

With construction slated to begin later this year, WCA Hospital expects to gain valuable space and privacy, and overall improvement in patient experiences. The new Emergency Department is designed to support additional floors above as WCA positions itself to complete overall campus consolidation in the years to come.

To date, WCA has secured $12 M toward the campaign’s $16.5 M capital campaign goal and is accepting gifts and pledges payable through 2013. For more information, please visit www.wcahospital.org.
