Jamestown, New York (Tuesday, August 31, 2010)—The WCA Hospital Dialysis Program recently received double-sided fleece blankets handmade and donated by the LSS “Cover Girls”, a local sewing, quilting, knitting and crocheting group.  The blankets will be given to patients who receive dialysis treatments at WCA Hospital.

Pam Meurer, R.N., BS, WCA Dialysis Nurse Manager, is thankful for the addition of the handmade blankets.  She explains, “There is something about giving someone a handmade blanket that is personal and special.  The cozy blankets give our patients and their families a sense that they are being cared for and loved, while providing warmth and comfort during their dialysis treatment.  These blankets, along with handmade quilts donated by the Chautauqua Region Quilt Guild, brighten up our unit.  We are extremely grateful to these wonderful ladies for their time and generosity in lending a hand to make WCA a very special place to receive care.”

The WCA Hospital Dialysis Program, which celebrated 30 years of serving the community in June of this year, maintains the highest quality of life possible for people diagnosed with kidney disease who are treated in the hospital or in the outpatient unit.  The program provides healing environment focused on the patient; comprehensive patient education; advanced treatment; expert physicians and nursing care; and convenient hours.  The Dialysis Program has state-of-the-art specialized technology for the treatment of patients with kidney failure.

The LSS “Cover Girls have donated to additional agencies in the Jamestown area including, The Salvation Army, the Women’s Shelter, Red Cross, Senior Citizen’s Day Care, and other area organizations.  The women’s group meets every fourth Thursday of the month at 2:00 p.m., quilting, sewing, knitting and crocheting handmade items for donations. Individuals interested in joining the LSS “Cover Girls group may contact Nancy Gaden at (716) 665-2456.
