WCA Buries Time Capsule

WCA Hospital

Jamestown, New York (Friday, May 28, 2010)—(photo release) In a commemorative ceremony that paid tribute to the 125th birthday of WCA Hospital, hospital officials and local dignitaries marked the beginning of the next 125 years of service by burying a time capsule near the site where the original one-room hospital stood – the Kimball residence.  Incorporated in 1885, WCA Hospital began as a boarding home for young working women and a one room hospital for the sick and injured.  The capsule contains hospital memorabilia that will be opened in the year 2135. Pictured from left, Timothy Black, WCA Hospital Board of Directors treasurer; Betsy T. Wright, WCA Hospital President/CEO; Judith Burgett, WCA Hospital Board of Directors chair who is shown wearing a nurses white uniform and registered nurse cap which was, for decades, the emblem of a registered nurse; City of Jamestown Mayor Samuel Teresi; New York State Assemblyman, William L. Parment. The ceremony took place on the exact day WCA Hospital turned 125 years old - Sunday May 23, 2010.  A community Birthday Party capped the day’s ceremony.
