WCA Observes American Heart Month in February

Jamestown, New York (Thursday, February 3, 2011)—More than 82 million adults are estimated to have one or more types of cardiovascular disease according to the American Heart Association.  To help the Chautauqua County residents beat the odds, the WCA Hospital Heart Center and Wellness team will present a three-part education series on “Wellness Wednesdays ~ Keeping Your Heart Smart” and offer “free” blood pressure checks during the month of February. 

The free heart-healthy presentations will be held Wednesday, February 9, 16, and 23, from 2:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m., at WCA Hospital Cardiac Rehab Gym, located on the 4th Floor of WCA Hospital.  The presentations are open to the public.  Light refreshments will be served and free heart-healthy education resources will be made available to the public.  To reserve your seat, contact Toni DeAngelo, R.N., WCA Hospital Community Health and Wellness Director, at (716) 664-8677.

The WCA Heart Team will also offer “free” blood pressure checks to the public in February from 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m., in the Cardiac Rehab Gym, 4th Floor. Walk-ins welcomed. No appointment for blood pressure checks necessary.

Throughout February, the WCA Heart Center team, WCA Hospital Sleep Center, and Wellness and Nutrition Services team will offer free heart-healthy educational resources on cardiovascular disease risks factors, symptoms, and beneficial ways to make good heart-healthy lifestyle choices including stop smoking help.  “Our participation in American Heart Month stresses lifestyle modifications that safeguard against heart disease,” says Toni DeAngelo, R.N., WCA Community Health & Wellness Director.  “As a major employer in Chautauqua County, WCA is at the forefront of heart health through its workforce year-round physical fitness and nutrition activities that help our WCA Family maintain a heart healthy way of life.  This month’s activities strive to encourage our community to maintain a heart-healthy lifestyle.”
