Betsy Wright, WCA Hospital President and CEO, is joined by Tim and Betsy Shults, representing Shults Auto Group, to present Steve Sellstrom with a check representing his $30,000 winnings from the Car on the Barge raffle which was announced in dramatic fashion from the floating stage in Bemus Bay during Light the Lakes on September 4th. The proceeds from this raffle benefited Sharing the Gift of Health: The Capital Campaign for Our Emergency Department.

Jamestown, New York (Thursday, October 20, 2011)—On September 4th, during the Light the Lakes from the Bemus Pops floating stage, WCA Hospital and Shults Auto Group announced the Car on the Barge raffle winner for a 2011 Chevy Camaro Convertible or $30,000 in cash in dramatic fashion.

Just before the Labor Day fireworks, STARFLIGHT medical evacuation helicopter dropped the winning raffle ticket within a waterproof container into the waters of Chautauqua Lake. From there, the container was retrieved from the water and delivered to the floating stage where Tim and Betsy Shults, representing Shults Auto Group, along with Betsy Wright, President and CEO of WCA Hospital, announced that Jamestown resident Steve Sellstrom was the raffle winner.

“Thanks to the efforts of so many individuals and local businesses, I am absolutely thrilled to announce that we sold over $66,000 worth of $10 raffle tickets,” said Tim Shults. “This was a team effort which supports the most important capital project in our community, the construction of our new Emergency Department at WCA Hospital.”

“We are very grateful to Tim and Betsy Shults and the entire Shults Auto Group for their creativity, leadership, and dedication to our capital campaign effort,” said Betsy Wright. “We are also grateful that the raffle winner, Steve Sellstrom, decided to generously donate $5,000 of his winnings back to our capital campaign.”

Shults Auto Group is in the midst of its $250,000 multi-year pledge to WCA Hospital for Sharing the Gift of Health: The Capital Campaign for Our Emergency Department. In an effort to raise additional funds to support the campaign, Shults Auto Group created the Car on the Barge raffle and promoted the sale of tickets through its media outlets and at all of its dealerships.

WCA Hospital’s 21st-century Emergency Department is now under full construction and expected to be open in 2012. With great advances in space and privacy, WCA Hospital’s new 18,000 square foot Emergency Department will dramatically improve the overall patient experience.

To date, WCA has reached the 85% mark by securing $14 M toward the $16.5 M capital campaign goal and is accepting gifts and pledges payable through 2013.
