Jamestown, New York (May 11, 2011) – In 2011, LINKS Charity is celebrating its 20th anniversary with a slate of special events that will continue its outstanding commitment to enhancing local cancer care at WCA Hospital.

Representatives from lead sponsor Truck-Lite and major sponsors Cummins, United Refining (Kwik Fill, Red Apple and Country Fair), and Alstar have announced the details for this year’s slate of activities, as well as the addition of two associate sponsors, Veracity Benefits and Jamestown Savings Bank, a division of Northwest Savings Bank.

“We are very pleased to be associate sponsors of the 20th Annual LINKS Charity. We feel this worthwhile event compliments the efforts of numerous individuals over the past nineteen years and we are honored to lend additional financial support for this critically important initiative that benefits many in our community,” states Laura Otander, CEO of Veracity Benefits, and Jon Scalise, CEO of Jamestown Savings Bank, a division of Northwest Savings Bank.

On August 1st and 2nd, Moon Brook Country Club in Jamestown will once again play host to two days of fun and fundraising. Featuring twenty-five LPGA professional golfers, Monday’s LINKS Charity Pro-Am golf tournament will begin with breakfast at 7:30 a.m. and a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. Later that evening, LINKS Charity will move indoors for the annual “LINKing Together” Banquet & Silent Auction which begins at 6:00 p.m. On Tuesday, LINKS Charity will once again feature the traditional four-person golf scramble (shotgun start at 9:00 a.m.), made special by the participation of LPGA golfers who move from team to team throughout the tournament and who conduct a golf clinic beginning at 8:00 a.m.

New to LINKS Charity this year will be the addition of the inaugural “LINKS Pink Walk” on Sunday, October 2nd. Staged on the campus of Jones Memorial Health Center, just outside the WCA Cancer Treatment Center, walkers will boldly wear pink while walking through downtown Jamestown. The goals of this charitable event will be to increase breast cancer awareness, promote good breast health, pay tribute to loved ones who have battled breast cancer, and raise vital funds for LINKS Charity.

“We are  excited about our 20th annual events as we move closer toward realizing our three-year, $250,000 goal of helping to purchase Digital Mammography equipment for WCA Hospital,” said Brad Van Riper, Truck-Lite Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer and LINKS Charity Executive Director. “This fantastic technology will help diagnose the most common form of cancer in Chautauqua County, breast cancer. We need help from everyone in our community to help us reach our goal and attack this deadly disease. Together, we can be successful and truly make a difference.”

LINKS Charity is in its third year of a three-year, $250,000 pledge toward the purchase of a new full field Digital Mammography imaging system in the WCA Center for Imaging & Medical Arts. In 2009 and 2010, LINKS Charity has raised a total of just over $160,000, leaving a goal of $90,000 to be raised in 2011.

“For almost twenty years, LINKS Charity has proven its extraordinary commitment to our community and our community hospital,” said Betsy T. Wright, WCA Hospital President/CEO. “We give our sincere appreciation to all of our LINKS supporters who share in our vision to provide new and advanced methods to prevent, treat, and beat cancer.”

LINKS Charity, established in 1991, was co-founded by Mary Blair and Sondra Anderson. Their commitment and passion along with many benevolent volunteers, including Allen Short, Executive Director for the first nineteen years, LINKS Charity has contributed in excess of $740,000 to local cancer care efforts. In recent years, this has included the advancement of medical care and treatment of individuals diagnosed with cancer at WCA Hospital through assistance in the purchase of a linear accelerator in the WCA Cancer Treatment Center, Computed Tomography (CT) Scan, MRI, stereotactic breast biopsy, and operating room cysto/urology suite.

There are many opportunities for businesses and individuals to participate in the 20th annual LINKS Charity golfing-related events, including event sponsorship, golfing with LPGA professionals, placing an ad in the event program, attending the banquet, donating items for the silent auction, and/or purchasing a very popular “Line the Drive” sign.
