Frewsburg Boys & Girls Soccer Donate Funds Raised Toward New Breast Technology at WCA

WCA Hospital
The Frewsburg Girls Soccer Teams, wearing their “Kicks For A Cure” pink t-shirts, recently presented WCA Hospital with a check for $1,500, money they raised this season in support of local breast cancer care. The Frewsburg Bears have raised nearly $3,000 in three years toward new 3D mammography technology at WCA Hospital, used in the fight against breast cancer.

Jamestown, New York (Wednesday, October 1, 2014)—For the third consecutive year, the Frewsburg Girls Soccer Teams paid special tribute to Coach Ericka Alm’s mom, Linda Johnson, who is a breast cancer survivor. The girls and boys soccer teams alongside, teachers, parents, and residents with the help of their Booster Club, once again donated proceeds from concessions, 50-50 raffles, and bucket donations to WCA Hospital to aid in the local fight against breast cancer.

Through their outstanding efforts, they have donated nearly $3,000 in three years toward the purchase of 3-D Breast Tomosynthesis in The Center For Imaging & Medical Arts at WCA. This state-of-the-art technology will aid in breast cancer detection, because early detection means faster intervention, more treatment options, and improved survival rates.

“Early detection is the best defense against breast cancer,” said Tammara L.C. Hodges, Director of Imaging Services at WCA. “Their continued efforts in raising funds toward our new breast tomosynthesis—a revolutionary 3D mammogram screening and diagnostic tool that assists our radiologists in the prevention, early detection, and treatment of breast cancer, saves lives in our fight against breast cancer.  We are thankful for their great support.”
