Jamestown, New York (Wednesday, February 18, 2015)—Graciously made possible from the Allen J. and Barbara B. Yahn Family Fund and unrestricted fund grants from WCA Foundation, WCA Hospital Maternity Center recently added a new element of comfort and care for the newborn infant and parents with the purchase of four new nursery bassinets to complement the 11-bassinet newborn nursery at the hospital.

Crafted with solid hardwood construction for extra durability and beauty to create a comfortable, home-like setting for Mom and baby, the new bassinet technology provides ease, quietness and safety for the parents, newborn and maternity care staff.

“A hospital bassinet is the first bed an infant will know,” said Donna Barber, RNC, MSN, WCA Hospital Maternity Care Center Nurse Manager.  “Our specialized team of physicians, nurses, and support staff offer Mom and baby a nurturing, caring environment from the moment she arrives at our door step.  The new bassinets enhance their stay by combining the coziness, tranquility, and ease that make the special arrival a joyful and heartwarming experience.  We could not be more excited to provide this new component of specialized infant care for our families.”

The new nursery bassinets add to the wide array of women’s services and programs at WCA Hospital.  The hospital’s maternity care suites are outfitted with comfortable furniture, a private bathroom, television, high-speed internet access, and a comfy reclining lounge chair for dad, set in a relaxing private homelike space for the family’s comfort. The Center also affords moms the opportunity to have the newborn infant with Mom during her stay at the hospital.

Caring for the new baby begins long before the actual birth.  From early prenatal days through labor, delivery, recovery and postpartum, WCA Hospital maternity care services include, personalized education and tips for the whole family; state-of-the-art fetal monitoring to help moms prepare for baby’s arrival; birthing rooms with reclining chairs; breast feeding classes from a certified lactation nurse; c-section classes, prepared childbirth classes; newborn and sibling classes; behavioral health and chemical dependency services, and nutrition, diabetes and wellness education.

Each year, the physicians and staff at WCA Hospital welcome more than 600 newborns into the world.  Take a tour of the Maternity Center at WCA Hospital by calling (716) 664-8281.  For a list of OB/GYN physicians, go to to find a doctor.
